The Paleolab group (David Pilbeam, John Barry, Larry Flynn, Michèle Morgan) are pleased to announce the January 2025 publication of At the Foot of the Himalayas (Johns Hopkins Press). The book is based on intensive field collections and laboratory analyses of an 18 to 6 million year fossiliferous sequence in the Siwaliks of Pakistan.

Begun by David in 1973 when based at Yale, continuing at Harvard from 1981, it became a case study of the dynamics of faunal change: what are the relative contributions of biotic and abiotic factors to change?

Michèle and David are editors of the book (along with Catherine Badgley, ex-HEB postdoc and now a University of Michigan Professor). Michèle, John and Larry have written or contributed to many of the 27 chapters. The 30 years of field work involved more than 100 participants, followed by another 20 years of description and analysis. The 33 contributors to chapters come from USA, Canada, England, France, Germany, Pakistan, Nepal, Japan.
